Blinken Under the Glare

Next week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to face twenty angry senators on Capitol Hill over the Kabul catastrophe.  The jet-setting diplomat may want to squeeze in some rest and relaxation at his family’s East Hamptons summer spread on the same lane as Martha Stewart.  The televised hearings promise to be a bumpy ride.
It will have been precisely two weeks since the United States made its last mad dash to the exits with a staggering 124,000 mostly Afghan evacuees aboard.  But, already, the U.S is being confronted on its own shores with strange and repugnant cultural practices that also happen to be illegal.
