Free speech isn’t having a good year. In the UK, we naively thought we’d won a significant victory on 5 January when Google reinstated the YouTube channel of a right-of-centre, anti-lockdown radio station it had banned 12 hours earlier. This was after a chorus of protest by free speech supporters. But any hope that Big Tech would rein itself in was short-lived.
