Last weekend, instead of the ecstatic crackling of fireworks lighting up the night sky to celebrate America’s independence, many inner cities across the country were wracked with blasts of gunfire. Dozens were slaughtered and countless more devastated. One father of a seven-year-old girl shot and killed in her grandmother’s Chicago backyard said, “To see my daughter on the table with a gunshot wound to the forehead, that will change somebody’s life.”
