Rio Grande Trouble for Democrats

Democrats are shaking in their cowboy boots.  A demographic political realignment may be under way in the Lone Star state, but not in the direction Democrats have long hoped.  Over the weekend, Republicans won an upset victory in the border town of McAllen, Texas situated along the Rio Grande.  Local GOP chairman Javier Villalobos beat his democratic opponent to become mayor of a city that is 85% Hispanic, in a county President Joe Biden swept by 17 points in 2020.  Saturday’s results prove that Donald Trump’s unexpected strength, last November, in Democratic strongholds along the southern border was not a fluke of personality.  Villalobos was able to win ...
