As France and Europe tries to decide how to commemorate the bicentenary of Napoleon Bonaparte’s death on 5 May, his reputation is coming under sharper attack than at any time since he finally succumbed to stomach cancer aged 51 on the Atlantic island of St Helena two hundred years ago. Yet, Napoleon is simply too big an historical figure to fall victim to the woke world of cancel culture; he will survive.
